On December 3, 1929, a few distinguished persons imbued with the idea of setting up a rowing club primarily for the Indians met together under the leadership of the great National leader Deshapriya Jatindra Mohan Sengupta and delineated the future course of action. A piece of land on Dhakuria Lake was taken on lease from the Calcutta Improvement Trust at Re. 1/- per year.
On November 15, 1931 the foundation stone of the Club House was laid by Maharani Indira Devi of Coochbehar. Soon after completion of the ground floor, the Club was inaugurated on August 27,1932.
The club offers a host of best in class Sports and Recreational Facilities. It’s the club’s endeavour to provide it’s members with a bouquet of amenities so that their time spent in the club can be truly useful and enjoyable.

Rowing is in the DNA of the club. Nestled on the Western Bank of one of the most picturesque courses in India, the club offers best in class rowing facility and training.

A new Ergometer Studio, first of its kind in India, is yet another facility for rowers for dry rowing to keep them fit and fine for Regattas.

The ultra modern 16 stationed air conditioned Multi Gym for members is a facility to rave about. A separate Gym for Rowers is another unique facility exclusively for rowing boys and girls.

The swimming pool is a great facility for relaxing. It is being maintained in a befitting manner, with proper upkeep. Modern changing rooms are available with hot / cold water facility.

The new tastefully renovated modern T.T. Room is hugely popular and is frequently being used for Members Get Together, conferences etc. It is a self contained modern facility with very good locational advantage.

Corner Hut, unique in setting, appearance and overlooking the lakes, presenting a resort like ambience, was renovated in tranches; Grandiose renovation plan has been conceptualized. An air conditioned Lounge is planned without compromising the look and ambience.

The Indoor Sports Complex is the biggest and most ambitious project undertaken by the Club since its inception. It facilitates different indoor sporting activities like Badminton, Table Tennis and Cards to be played simultaneously and also encourages and promotes these sports further.

The Lawn Bar is a very popular, favourite and sought after hangout of the members. Its appropriate renovation was felt necessary. It now has a refurbished and new look, adding glamour and vibrancy to the beautiful Lawn.

Looks after rowing activities of the Club and helps the Captain of Boats to take appropriate decision.

Responsible for organizing all indoor games, Tournaments, Competitions etc. Also arrange for tournaments with other prominent Clubs.

Responsible for beautification of the Club. Has earned a name in Club Circle for its Garden. One head gardener with three gardeners are engaged in cleaning, sweeping and mowing of Club Lawn.

It oversees swimming by members, their sons, daughters and guests. It also organizes Swimming Competition. There are two male and two female trainers for training of novice swimmers.
